Obex Team Showing Their Community Spirit

Community work is so important to us as Obex, but this extends further than just within the community. With the devastation happening in Ukraine, we had staff immediately asking themselves how they could contribute, some donated their clothes, food and money by dropping these within their local area to be shipped to Ukraine. 

I’m not sure how many of you have thought about how these items get to Ukraine and how this is funded. Sab reached out with Iwan Tukalo a former rugby player for Scotland and David Higgin, who has set up the 100 World Legends charity doing their our own charity tournaments in the UK and helping local charities.  

They have been working harder than ever to help support Ukraine through this incredibly hard time and have been organising/arranging donations to be taken from Edinburgh to Ukraine, contacting local businesses and hotels to see what support they can offer to donate goods and raise funds to get this over to Ukraine. Iwan & David were able to ask a company that sources lorry drivers to drive to Ukraine for free, but the fuel expenses still need to be covered by the 100 World Legends charity. 

It cost £2000 in fuel for one lorry to drive to Ukraine. We are fortunate enough that we (Obex) were able to cover the cost of one lorry and the lorry we sponsored was able to take items such as flour, bedding, medical supplies, and food.

In total 100 World Legends charity has managed to get ten lorries over to Ukraine and some of the rugby players volunteered to load the lorries at the warehouse in Edinburgh. With the rise in costs, fuel expenses have now increased to £3800/£4000 per lorry. 

Unfortunately, it isn’t over and Ukrainians still need our support especially now it is coming to the winter months.  They are in desperate need of more medical supplies, clothing, and bedding.  

The 100 World Legends charity has also been selling jerseys at their fundraising events. This has also raised enough money to ship another lorry and donate money to two children’s charities in the UK. Obex is proud to have our logo on these jerseys.
